Is it a sin to bet on sports?

Betting on sports means risking money on the outcome of sporting events, usually for the chance to win more money.

1. Does it glorify God?

2. Can I do this without being tempted to sin?

No. Betting commonly involves temptation toward greed, obsession with winning, and loss of self-control, making it difficult for many Christians to practice without falling into sinful attitudes or behavior.

3. Could I do this with Jesus Christ next to me?

No. A Christian should consider whether they could honestly place a bet while consciously aware of Christ's presence; the gambling mindset and motivations involved would make that difficult to justify biblically.

So, yes, it is a sin to bet on sports.

Although sports themselves are not sinful, wagering money on their outcomes commonly involves greed, covetousness, and poor stewardship. A Christian should instead enjoy sports without turning them into an opportunity for gambling.
