Is it a sin to read horoscopes?
Reading horoscopes is reading astrology-based predictions or personality claims based on a person’s zodiac sign, commonly for entertainment, guidance, or predictions about the future.
We're now going to evaluate it using the following simple but effective test:
1. Does it glorify God?
No. Scripture directs believers to seek God for guidance rather than relying on astrology or divination (Deuteronomy 18:10–12; Isaiah 47:13–14).
2. Can I do this without being tempted to sin?
No. Regularly reading horoscopes can encourage dependence on astrological predictions, superstition, or seeking guidance apart from God.
3. Could I do this with Jesus Christ next to me?
No. A Christian should not willingly engage in something that treats astrology as a source of supernatural guidance or knowledge about the future.
So, yes, it is a sin to read horoscopes.
The biblical concern is not simply reading words about zodiac signs, but participating in a practice that directs trust toward astrology rather than God. Even if done casually, Christians should avoid horoscopes when they function as divination or spiritual guidance.
