Is it a sin to use astrology?

Astrology is the practice of interpreting the positions and movements of celestial bodies as having influence over people’s personalities, lives, or future. People commonly use it for entertainment, self-reflection, or guidance about relationships and life decisions.

We're now going to evaluate it using the following simple but effective test:

1. Does it glorify God?

No. The Bible warns against divination and seeking guidance through occult practices rather than God (Deuteronomy 18:10–12; Isaiah 47:13–14). Astrology directs people toward the stars for spiritual guidance instead of trusting God.

2. Can I do this without being tempted to sin?

No. Using astrology for guidance can tempt a Christian to depend on horoscopes, signs, or predictions instead of God's Word and prayer.

3. Could I do this with Jesus Christ next to me?

No. A Christian would have difficulty honestly practicing astrology for spiritual guidance while consciously recognizing Christ's presence, since Scripture calls us to seek God rather than divination.

So, yes, it is a sin to use astrology.

The biblical concern is not simply knowing about astrology, but participating in it as a source of spiritual guidance, prediction, or supernatural insight. A Christian should instead seek God's guidance through prayer, Scripture, and wisdom.
